On Saturday, February 1, 2025, at approximately 1:54 a.m., officers responded to 10071 Airport Boulevard (Alabama Bar & Lounge) in reference to a shooting in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with a gunshot injury. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A second male victim arrived to a local hospital by personal vehicle with a gunshot injury.
Later in the morning, one of the victims was pronounced deceased, shifting this case to a homicide investigation. The deceased victim’s name will be released upon next of kin notification.
Officers identified and located the subject on scene. Mathew Sanders, 20, was initially arrested and transported to Metro Jail on two Assault charges. However, one of the charges will be upgraded to murder.
