AUTHORITIES APPREHEND LAW ENFORCEMENT IMPERSONATOR

On March 9, 2009, members of the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in conjunction with assistance from Mobile Police Officers apprehended suspect Eric Odom today at a residence in Birmingham, Alabama. Odom is currently a suspect in various cases of Theft of Property and Impersonating a Peace Officer in the Mobile Police jurisdiction. Odom is also a suspect in several other cases from surrounding jurisdictions.

Odom has four active warrants out of Mobile Police jurisdiction stemming from incidents where he has been identified as a suspect that has claimed to be a law enforcement officer and stolen money from elderly victims. These warrants are for Theft of Property First Degree and Impersonating a Peace Officer for an incident that occurred on February 9, 2009 at a residence located in the 1600 block of Midway Avenue and also active warrants for Theft of Property Second Degree and Impersonating a Peace Officer for a separate incident that occurred in the 1100 block of Rotterdam Avenue on February 28, 2009.

Detectives with the Mobile Police Department Financial Crimes Unit are also investigating Odom in the involvement of other cases bearing similar characteristics of the previously described incidents. Police will advise if any other charges will be filed against suspect Eric Odom.

Odom is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail. Further information will be disseminated as it comes available.
