BANK ROBBERY AT HIGHWAY 90 AND AZALEA ROAD

On June 1, 2009 at approximately 1:30 PM Mobile Police received a report of a bank robbery at the Compass Bank located at Highway 90 and Azalea Road. During the incident a white male entered the bank and indicated to the teller he was armed with a gun, demanded money and was able to leave with an undisclosed amount of money. The subject was last seen running through the parking lot of the business.

Mobile Police responded to the scene and were able to obtain a good description of the suspect and a possible vehicle. An officer observed a vehicle that matched the description and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect refused to stop for the officer and the suspect continued north on Interstate 65. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect on New Street in Prichard. The suspect was transported to USA Medical Center for evaluation after the incident.

Robbery Detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The investigators have identified the suspect as forty-seven year old Jeffery Michael Pugh of Gulf Shores Alabama. Pugh has been arrested and charged with Robbery First Degree. The investigation will continue, and information will be provided as it becomes available.
