Chief Barber Presented MCPSS Certificate of Recognition

Feb 24th, 2015

On February 23, 2015, Chief James H. Barber was presented a certificate of recognition at the meeting of the Mobile County Public School Board of Commissioners for efforts made to positively affect the lives of students in Mobile County.

The Mobile Police Department and the Mobile County Public School System have entered into a partnership to encourage students to make positive choices and understand how split-second decisions can have life-changing results. This partnership includes a series of presentations by Chief Barber at area high schools for students and parents which includes the Department's "You Have a Choice" program.

School Board Commissioner Doug Harwell presented Chief Barber the certificate, stating Chief Barber's "commitment to quality living is obvious in the time you are taking to inform our students and parents there are choices. Your desire to have parents involved has certainly played a positive role."

"You Have a Choice" is a program implemented in October 2014 by Chief Barber in an effort to reduce recidivism for juvenile criminal offenders. The video can be found on the Department's web site at www.MobilePD.org or on YouTube.
