Corporal Resigns After Pleading Guilty to Tax Evasion
May 9th, 2014
On May 9, 2014, Corporal Don Pears resigned from the Mobile Police Department after pleading guilty to income tax evasion and filing false reports. The resignation is effective immediately and places Pears in bad standing with the Department as he failed to give a two-week notice.
The Department was in the process of administratively removing Pears' certification as he could not function in the capacity of a police officer after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Pears, a homicide detective, served the Mobile Police Department for almost 43 years.
