The Mobile Police Department honors Dakota Vest-Wright as Civilian of the Month for October 2016. Vest-Wright has been employed with the Mobile Police Department since March 2015. She is a public safety dispatcher in the Communications Unit.
Vest-Wright is recognized for her efforts in communicating a coordinated response at a block party shooting. It happened in the area of Brazier Drive West and Simington Drive on Saturday evening Oct. 15, 2016.
The radio traffic was hectic with units advising of the different locations shots were being fired. With calm, Vest-Wright was able to dispatch all available units from multiple precincts to the scene and coordinated response with Mobile Fire-Rescue. Once officers secured the scene, they discovered that five victims sustained gunshot wounds.
Another example of her service is when she worked dispatch during the homicides occurring Oct. 2, 2016 at the 6400 block of Lillian Drive and Oct. 10, 2016 at the 1900 block of Duval St. During both tragic events, Vest-Wright was able to dispatch patrol units and detectives in an expeditious fashion and disseminate pertinent information to all units responding.
According to her colleagues, Vest-Wright personifies the mission of the department and provides exemplary service to her co-workers and the citizens of Mobile.
