In an effort to provide a safe holiday season for all, the City of Mobile Police Department will strictly enforce the entertainment district ordinance concerning alcoholic beverages. This ordinance has been in effect since 2013 and does not allow open containers or alcoholic beverages purchased outside the entertainment district.
In addition, the ordinance states that no licensee shall allow a patron, guest, or member to exit its licensed premises with more than one (1) open container of alcoholic beverages. It shall be unlawful for any person to exit such licensed premises with more than one (1) such open container between noon and midnight.
After midnight alcoholic beverages and open containers are not permitted in any public area within the downtown business district. In addition, the public parking that is open to common areas will be vigorously patrolled, and officers will enforce the noise ordinance.
Patrons will have to buy their drinks from a designated licensee in the entertainment district, and those drinks will have to be served in paper or plastic cups with the "LODA" logo or the business name from which they purchase the drink. Alcoholic beverages cannot exceed 16 fluid ounces in size.
The downtown entertainment district means the area located in downtown Mobile and bounded as follows: on the south by Government Street from its intersection with Water Street to its intersection with Dearborn Street, thence by Dearborn Street from its intersection with Government Street to its intersection with Conti Street, thence by Conti Street from its intersection with Dearborn Street to its intersection with Washington Avenue; on the east by Water Street from its intersection with Government Street to its intersection with St. Joseph Street; on the north by St. Joseph Street from its intersection with Water Street to its intersection with St. Louis Street, thence by St. Louis Street from its intersection with St. Joseph Street to its intersection with Washington Avenue; and on the west by Washington Avenue from its intersection with St. Louis Street to its intersection with Conti Street.
