Enforcement of Open-Container Ordinance in Downtown Entertainment District

Aug 17th, 2018

Beginning Friday, August 24, 2018, the Mobile Police Department will begin enforcing the open-container ordinance in the Downtown Entertainment District. The outside consumption of alcoholic beverages is permitted but with conditions.

All alcoholic beverages leaving licensed establishments are required to be in plastic or paper cups bearing the logo of the licensee or the LoDa logo.

Glasses are allowed at sidewalk cafes where food is being served. This requirement is designed to ensure that the people coming downtown to enjoy the nightlife are customers of the licensee, and not simply bringing their own beverages from home.

Additionally, no "open containers" on the streets and sidewalks of downtown are allowed after midnight.
