HOMICIDE ON DONALD STREET

On April 17, 2009 at approximately 5:40 P.M. Mobile Police responded to a report of one shot in the area of 658 Donald Street near the Michael Figures Community Center. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, identified as 15 year old Markel Anderson with a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. Anderson was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that Anderson was congregating with several other individuals in front of the Michael Figures Community Center when several unknown subjects occupying a small light colored vehicle drove past the crowd. An occupant(s) of the small vehicle fired multiple shots at the crowd striking Anderson. The suspect vehicle was last seen fleeing the area of the incident heading North on Donald Street.

Investigators are continuously working to locate the individual(s) responsible for this incident. Further information will be disseminated as it becomes available.
