HOMICIDE ON DONALD STREET (UPDATE)

On April 17, 2009 at approximately 5:40 P.M. Mobile Police responded to a report of one shot in the area of 658 Donald Street near the Michael Figures Community Center. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, identified as 15 year old Markel Anderson with a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. Anderson was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. On Saturday, April 18, 2009, investigators were able to locate and arrest three suspects that were found to be responsible for the death of Markel Anderson.

Two of the three subjects have been identified as 15 year old juvenile males. The two juvenile subjects were located, questioned, and subsequently charged with Murder. Both subjects were transported to Strickland Youth Center. The third subject has been identified as 16 year old Montreall Lockett. Lockett turned himself into authorities at Mobile Police Headquarters on today's date at approximately 10:30 A.M. Lockett was also questioned and subsequently charged with the Murder. He was transported to Mobile County Metro Jail.

Investigators were able to determine that the death of Markel Anderson was the result of an ongoing neighborhood rivalry between the three suspects whom are from the Prichard area and individuals residing in the Toulmonville Community.
