HOMICIDE ON DUBOSE STREET (UPDATE)

On March 7, 2009 at approximately 1:04 A.M. Mobile Police responded to a report of one shot in the area of Dubose Street and Spring Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, identified as 35 year old Debra Porter had sustained a single gunshot wound to her back. Porter was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center where she later died.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that Porter was inside of her vehicle in the area of Dubose Street and Spring Street when an unknown black male subject approached her vehicle armed with a gun. Porter attempted to drive away from the subject when he fired a single gunshot into the vehicle which struck Porter in her back. Witnesses to this incident alerted police who responded to the scene.

On March 9, 2009 Homicide Investigators located suspects Devarius Houston (15 year old) and Derrick Key (21 year old) who were implicated throughout the course of this investigation. Investigators were able to determine that the motive for the incident was robbery. At approximately 9:00 P.M. Homicide Investigators formally charged both suspects with one count of Murder and Robbery First Degree. Devarius Houston (juvenile) was charged as an adult along with Derrick Key and transported to Metro Jail.
