MAN STEALS VEHICLE OCCUPIED WITH YOUNG CHILDREN

On February 19, 2009 at approximately 11:45 P.M., Mobile Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle that was occupied with two small children at the BP Service Station located at 1363 Government Street.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim; a 31 year old female who stated she was inside of the service station when she observed an unknown black male subject get into the driver's seat of her vehicle (a late 1990's model Dodge Intrepid) and begin to drive off with her two small children, ages 3 and 5 inside.

The victim ran out of the store and attempted to stop the subject by jumping on the hood of the car and yelling for the subject to stop. The subject refused to stop and continued to drive a short distance eastbound on Government Street with the victim on the hood. The victim jumped from the hood of the vehicle and called police to report the incident. The subject continued eastbound on Government Street with the two children inside the vehicle.

Police located the children minutes later in the area of Ann Street and Government Street unharmed. The children were immediately reunited with their mother. The victim also did not sustain any injuries during this incident.

On February 20, 2009, Mobile Police located the victim's vehicle and are in current stages of processing it for forensic evidence.

The subject is described as a black male, approximately in his 20's. He was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with brown pants.
