Dec 4th, 2009

File Number: 09-12-0634

On December 4, 2009 at approximately 7:55 AM, MCSENT and members of the Mobile Police Department Tactical Response Unit conducted a search warrant pursuant to an undercover investigation, at 5667 Overlook Road.

Investigators subsequently apprehended three suspects inside the residence identified as Latrell D. Cooper, Marcus Taylor, and Artilya M. Thomas. Cooper was arrested and charged with Trafficking Cocaine, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana First Degree, and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm. Taylor was also charged with Trafficking Cocaine, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana First Degree, and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm. Thomas was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana Second Degree.

The extensive and in-depth investigation into these individuals has revealed that they are a higher level of local drug traffickers distributing the illegal narcotics to their affiliate local mid-level traffickers. Investigators have determined that the drug trafficking organization's supply of illegal narcotics is linked to a specific Mexican drug cartel. Investigators have not released the cartel's identity.

Investigators seized one and one half kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $100 per gram for a total of $161,500.00, 856 grams of marijuana valued at approximately $5,000.00, two .45 caliber handguns, $2,000.00 in U.S. currency, and various other narcotic paraphernalia and electronics.

The investigation into this case remains continuous and further information will be released as it becomes available.
