Mobile Police Announce April Officer of the Month
The Mobile Police Department would like to extend an open invitation to friends and media for the Officer of the Month Luncheon to be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at Azalea City Golf Course, located at 1000 Gaillard Drive. The Officer of the Month program is presented by the Midtown Optimist Club.
Officer Joseph Law, III, who has served as a Mobile police officer for three years, currently serves as an officer in the First Precinct and will be awarded the honor for his exceptional performance during the month of April.
The following are examples of Officer Law's exemplary work during this time:
On April 23, 2015, Officer Law observed a vehicle and suspects matching the description of those broadcast as wanted for a robbery earlier in the day. He took into custody the two suspects who had previously robbed a victim at knifepoint and were subsequently charged with Robbery First Degree. One of the suspects was found to have committed four additional robberies earlier in the month.
On April 27, 2015, Officer Law arrived on the scene of a shooting where one female victim was pronounced dead on scene and another transported to a local hospital with non life-threathening injuries. Officer Law was instrumental in his initial investigation in determining who fired the fatal shot. After securing the suspect, Officer Law was able to determine the location of the previously hidden murder weapon.
Officer Law is also a certified FBI firearms instructor who frequently trains and assists his fellow officers in the use of firearms.
During the month of April, Officer Law responded to 103 calls for service, provided back up for 65 additional complaints, made eight felony arrests, one misdemeanor arrests and issued seven citations.
His initiative and enthusiasm in performing his duties show a proactive police style which is an asset to the Mobile Police Department. His success is the result of professional demeanor and high-quality police work.
