Mobile Police Announce September Civilian of the Month

Oct 14th, 2015

The Mobile Police Department recognizes an employee as Civilian of the Month for September. Serving as a surveillance technician in the Special Operations Central Events Unit, Laurinia Parker's observation of criminal activity taking place at night has been notably commendable.

Parker is in charge of video surveillance activity on behalf of downtown businesses and patrons. Her attention to detail and quick response has directly contributed to several felony arrests.

Recently, she observed suspicious activity in a parking lot near the area of N. Franklin St. and Saint Francis St. of three suspects removing items from another party's parked vehicle and placing those items in their own vehicle. Parker recognized this as a possible burglary and immediately dispatched on-duty officers to the location of the crime. Officers responded and arrested all three suspects for unlawful breaking and entering into a vehicle. The subsequent investigation also uncovered that the suspects were in possession of a stolen .40 caliber pistol and a small bag of a controlled substance.

According to Sgt. Jason Henson, Parker represents the Central Events Unit's dedication to keep downtown Mobile safe. She joined the Mobile Police Department in 2011.
