Mobile Police Arrest Whitney Bank Robber

On November 2, 2011 at approximately 10:25 a.m., Mobile Police responded to a bank robbery at Whitney Bank on Rangeline Road. Officers were advised a white male entered the bank and produced a note demanding money from the bank. The teller complied and gave the subject an undisclosed amount of money. The subject placed a package on the counter and indicated it was an explosive device before exiting the building. A bomb squad later determined the package was not an explosive device.

Minutes after the robbery, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle on Bellingrath Road. After a short pursuit, the suspect, 43 year-old Harold Lloyd Hayes, Jr., wrecked his vehicle and was taken into custody.

Hayes was transported to USA Medical Center where he received treatment for minor injuries sustained in the wreck. He was released from the hospital at approximately 10:00 p.m. on November 2, 2011 and booked in Metro Jail on the charge of Robbery First Degree.
