Mobile Police Citizens Academy Open Enrollment

Help police fight crime and improve safety citywide by enrolling in the Mobile Police Department Citizens Academy. The classes begin March 7, 2016 and meet once a week for 10 weeks to provide hands-on perspective of police work.
Topics include crime scene security and investigations, traffic operations, tactical unit callouts, bomb squad, case investigation, crime prevention and more. Classes are taught by police officials with expertise in the given areas of instruction.
Citizens will also have the option, on a voluntary basis, to ride with a patrol officer and visit several law enforcement facilities, including Metro Jail and Communications. They will also receive training on firearm handling and safety at the MPD Pistol Range.
The program is free and class size is limited. Participants must be residents of the city or its police jurisdiction and at least 21 years of age with no significant arrest history. They must present a valid Alabama driver license and be willing to undergo a background check.
