Mobile Police Department Fish Fry, Drawing for Prichard Pensioners Successful

May 3rd, 2011

Friday, April 29, 2011, the Mobile Police Department hosted a fish fry at the Knights of Columbus, Council 666 on Pleasant Valley Road. This event and department-wide effort raised almost $11,000 for retired Prichard city employees who have not received their pensions. Over 1,000 plates, which were sold at $8 each, were assembled by police officers and civilians from the Mobile Police Department.

The Department also held a drawing on the same day in which participants had purchased chances to win a three-night stay at a Meyer Real Estate Gulf Shores condominium, a $250 gift card to Bel Air Mall, a gift basket and gift card from Callaghan's Irish Social Club and a gift card to Hopjack's Pizza Kitchen and Taproom. Mr. Sidney Anderson, a retired Prichard police officer, was on hand to draw the winning tickets. Anderson expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Mobile Police Department for their raising of funds. "These people — all of my fellow retirees — need this," stated Anderson. "You have no idea how grateful we are."

These fundraisers are a collaborative effort of the Mobile Police Department, as there is great concern for fellow officers and city employees who have retired from the neighboring city of Prichard. Area businesses and organizations have also become actively involved in the event, either by actual or in-kind donations. To date, the following, as well as those listed above, have donated to this event:
