Mobile Police Department to Participate in Fundraisers for Special Olympics

Apr 16th, 2013

The Mobile Police Department has chosen, once again, to participate in the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run, the "Cops on Top" annual fundraiser and a celebration at Medal of Honor Park, all to benefit the Special Olympics, beginning Friday, April 19, 2013 and continuing through Saturday, April 20, 2013.

Every year, law enforcement officers from around the nation gather for their local and state games and participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run. On behalf of the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, the Department is asking for the public's assistance in raising money for this worthy cause.

"Cops on Top" is a 36-hour "roof sit" where officers from the Department will camp out on top of two local grocery stores. This year, officers will camp at Bruno's on Airport and University Boulevards and Winn Dixie on Government and Catherine Streets. The Department's participation is an effort to raise awareness and funds for our local Special Olympics athletes.

On Saturday, April 20, there will be a family-friendly celebration beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Medal of Honor Park on Hillcrest Road. Local bands will be playing and committee members will be selling t-shirts and taking donations.

All donations are presented directly to the Special Olympics of Alabama and are tax-deductible. Donations may be picked up prior to the event or a company representative may present the donation at the event site. Companies donating $100 or more will be recognized by having their company name included in reoccurring roof-top announcements.

To donate to this fundraiser or for more information, contact Torch Run Coordinator, Detective J. Bridgeforth of the Mobile Police Department by calling (251) 432-1101, (251) 689-3936 or jbridgeforth@cityofmobile.org. Additional information regarding the Law Enforcement Torch Run can be found at www.AlabamaLETR.com.

Checks should be made payable to Special Olympics Alabama. Tax identification information can be provided upon request.
