Mobile Police Investigate a Traffic Fatality on Springhill Avenue

On January 14, 2011 at approximately 2:55 p.m. Mobile Police responded to a report of two pedestrians struck in the area of Springhill Avenue and Bay Shore Avenue. Upon officers' arrival, they found a Chevrolet Tahoe had struck both a female sitting in an electric wheelchair and an 11 year old boy. Mobile Fire Rescue responded and the female was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Tahoe was transported to Springhill Medical Center for evaluation.
Preliminary results of the investigation reveal the deceased female has been identified as 65 year old Mildred Davis of Mobile. Detectives have determined that the 45 year old male driver while traveling north on Bay Shore Avenue, left the roadway and struck the pedestrians on the sidewalk.
