Mobile Police Investigate ATV Fatality

On January 27, 2015, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Mobile Police Traffic Safety Units responded to Gulf Dale Drive at Gulf Dale Circle for a report of a crash involving a Honda Rancher 420 all-terrain vehicle (ATV). The driver, 29 year-old Sherrod Antonio Barnes of Mobile, lost control of the ATV which caused him to leave the road and strike a fence. Barnes was transported to University of South Alabama Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed the prime contributing factor in this collision was speed. It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs played a factor in the crash.
