MOBILE POLICE INVESTIGATE HOMICIDE ON HUNTER’S RIDGE DRIVE WEST

On July 27, 2009 at approximately 4:24 P.M. Mobile Police responded to a report of one shot at a residence located in the 1300 block of Hunter's Ridge Drive West. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a fifteen year old juvenile female suspect had shot a second fifteen year old female juvenile with a .357 Magnum handgun in the head.

The victim was transported to Providence Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased after efforts to revive her rendered unsuccessful. Homicide Investigators responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Preliminary investigation has revealed the shooting was accidental and that the suspect and victim were friends. The suspect retrieved the handgun and was playing with it when she pointed it at the victim and pulled the trigger fatally wounding her.

The juvenile suspect has currently been charged with Manslaughter and booked into Strickland Youth Center. This investigation remains continuous and further information will be disseminated as it becomes available.
