Mobile Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting

Nov 4th, 2014

On Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Mobile Police officers with the Mobile County Street Enforcement Narcotics Team (MCSENT) were in the area of 1st and Rich Avenues, as the area is a known hotspot for drug activity. Officers attempted to approach two male subjects when one subject ran. As officers gave chase towards the fleeing subject, who later identified himself as 30 year-old Terrance Gray, Gray turned toward an officer and produced a semi-automatic handgun. The weapon was later determined to be stolen. The officer drew his weapon, fired one shot and struck Grey in the leg. Gray was taken into custody and was transported to U. S. A. Medical Center for a non-life-threatening injury.

Officer Matthew Winston, who has been with the Mobile Police Department for approximately three years, fired the shot at the suspect. Officer Winston was not injured in this altercation.

Mobile Police Internal Affairs and Homicide unit are conducting the investigation into this officer-involved shooting.
