Mobile Police Investigate Traffic Fatality

On January 22, 2015, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Mobile Police responded to Washington Avenue at Tennessee Street for a report of a one-vehicle crash with injuries.

The investigation into the crash revealed the vehicle, a 2003 BMW, was traveling northbound on Washington Avenue at a high rate speed when the driver lost control and struck a building, coming to rest against a utility pole. The driver, Stephanie Lucas Cain of Mobile, was transported to University of South Alabama Medical Center where she died as a result of her injuries. A 21 year-old female passenger received minor injuries.

The prime contributing factor in this collision was speed. It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs played a factor in the crash.
