On Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at approximately 12 p.m. police responded the 400 block of North Lafayette Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old male, identified as Carey Wheat, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. Another 19-year-old male had also been shot at the location but was transported to the hospital.
