On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at approximately 6:10 a.m., Investigators and SWAT officers executed a search warrant on the 800 block of Charles Street. Upon making entry, Kordell Jones, 24, exited the residence through a rear window armed with an AR Type Riffle. An officer encountered Jones firing multiple rounds, striking him at least once.
Mr. Jones later passed away due to his injuries.
Jason Jones, 19, was arrested during the execution of the search warrant at the residence in connection with a previously reported robbery incident. Additional arrests may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
In accordance with standard protocol for all officer-involved shootings, two independent investigations will be conducted. The Mobile Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit will investigate the shooting, while the Office of Professional Responsibility will conduct an administrative review. The District Attorney's Office is also conducting an independent investigation. In addition, the officer involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave.
