Mobile Police Make Arrest in Cold Case Murder

On January 5, 2012 at approximately 11:50 p.m., Mobile Police responded with the Mobile Fire Department to Spring Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery located at 600 Pierce Road for a report of a vehicle fire. Upon extinguishing the fire, a deceased male victim was found in the vehicle. The victim was later identified as 31 year-old Michael Adkins of Spanish Fort.

As a result of a continuing investigation by Mobile Police homicide detectives, 22 year-old Carley Joseph Lonnie Capps was identified as the suspect responsible for this murder. On April 9, 2015, Mobile Police were able to obtain a warrant for the charge of Murder against Capps, who currently resides in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. On the same date, with the help of the FBI, Missouri State Police and the Cape Girardeau Sheriff's Office, Mobile Police arrested Capps at a residence in Cape Girardeau.

Capps is currently awaiting extradition to Mobile County to await trial for Murder.
