Mobile Police Make Arrest in Midtown Burglaries, Seek Possible Additional Victims

Feb 18th, 2014

On February 17, 2014, Mobile Police were able to conclude a 17-day operation in reference to multiple residential burglaries in the Midtown Mobile area by arresting 25 year-old Matthew Jamal Blackmon of Mobile. Blackmon has been charged with 21 counts of Burglary Third Degree and Felony Probation Violation, all in reference to these residential burglaries. According to police reports, a total of approximately $45,000 worth of items was stolen in these burglaries.

At the time of his arrest, Blackmon was on probation for four previous residential Burglary Third Degree charges. He served six months of a five-year sentence.

Using intelligence-led policing strategies, a criminal profile was established based on information from the suspect's method of operation and other factors. Officers were specifically assigned to this operation and canvassed the area, making contact and sharing information with area residents as well as looking for a possible suspect.

On February 17, a resident alerted police when she noticed a person matching the criminal profile in her neighborhood. Officers from the Third Precinct subsequently made contact with Blackmon, who was in possession of a large amount of jewelry, some of it taken from a residence which he has just burglarized.

Police recovered a large amount of jewelry, including necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings. Also recovered were electronics, sunglasses and cash.

Police have been able to return a large amount of the stolen items to the victims of the burglaries. However, police are asking citizens who live in the Midtown area who may have been burglarized in recent months to call the Third Precinct at (251) 470-7744.

Anyone with information in regards to these burglaries is also asked to call Mobile Police.
