Mobile Police Make Arrest on Homicide on Brazier Drive

On June 11, 2011 Mobile Police Homicide Detectives arrested Demarcus James for the murder of Broderick Lane, and the attempt murder of Brandon Freeman after James turned himself in to Metro Jail on the night of June 10, 2011.

On June 9, 2011 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Mobile Police responded to a report of two men shot in the Roger Williams Housing Complex. Officers located Lane on St. Charles Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen and, a few minutes later, located Freeman on Brazier Drive with a gunshot wound to his chest. Mobile Fire Department responded and both men were transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center.

Broderick Antwain Lane later died at the hospital from his injuries.

Preliminary results of the investigation revealed the Broderick Lane and 23 year-old Demarcus James were robbing Brandon Freeman when a struggle ensued between Lane and Freeman. During the struggle, Demarcus James shot both Broderick Lane and the Brandon Freeman before fleeing the scene.
