Mobile Police Make Second Arrest in Assault Case

On October 30, 2013, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Mobile Police responded to the 6800 block of Carol Plantation Road for a report of two people shot. Upon arrival, police found a 19 year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds to the face, chest and leg and a 20 year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Both were transported to U. S. A. Medical Center where both are listed in stable condition.

An area canvas was conducted to search for at least one male suspect, believed to be involved in the shootings. It was determined the suspect was hiding in an apartment in the area and initially refused to surrender to police.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., Mobile Police Tactical Response Unit was able to take 23 year-old Jequan Malik Selmon-Ward into custody after he surrendered on the premises of Pearson Park Apartments. Selmon-Ward was arrested and charged with Assault First Degree in reference to this case.

UPDATE: On October 31, 2013, 20 year-old Derrick Terrell White was released from U. S. A. Medical Center, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. Investigation revealed White was the second suspect in this assault case, who was also shot during the incident. White was arrested and charged with Assault First Degree and Possession of Marijuana First Degree.
