Mobile Police Officer Terminated on Major Violations

Nov 24th, 2014

Mobile Police Chief James Barber announces the termination, effective immediately, of Officer Cynthia Thomas, who was most currently assigned as a traffic enforcement officer.

On Wednesday, November 12, 2014, a Trial Board was convened for the purpose of hearing evidence of three major violations. The members of this Board made the unanimous decision to find Officer Thomas guilty of Violation of the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics, Failure to Obey a Direct Order and Conduct Unbecoming. As all these charges are major violations, the Board recommended Thomas be dismissed from service with the Mobile Police Department. Chief Barber and Mayor Sandy Stimpson concurred with the findings of the Board.

Thomas has the right to an appeal through the Personnel Board, at which time details surrounding the events of her dismissal would be made available.

Thomas served the Mobile Police Department for over 20 years.
