Mobile Police Raise Awareness for the Adult Special Olympics

Mar 29th, 2012

March 29, 2012

Each year, law enforcement officers from around the nation gather for local and state Law Enforcement Torch Run events in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics. The event began in 1981 in Wichita, Kansas and is now the largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for the Special Olympics.

Mobile Police officers will gather at 4851 Museum Drive at 8:00 a.m. Friday March 30, 2012 and run to the St Paul Stadium where they will convene with Special Olympians for the opening ceremonies of their local games. The torch will then be passed to the athletes and the caldron will be lit…marking the beginning of the 2012 Adult Games.

For more information about how to participate in the Torch Run or donate to the cause, contact Det. Jackie Bridgeforth at 432-1101.
