With the 2014-2015 school year ending, Mobile Police want to remind Mobile area parents and teenagers about the change in the hours of the city's curfew ordinance.
The city-wide weekday curfew will be enforced each Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. and from midnight until 6:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. In the downtown entertainment district, the curfew for teenagers is 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. every night of the week.
Exemptions of the curfew ordinance are as follows:
• When accompanied by a parent, guardian or authorized adult
• When accompanied by another adult authorized by parent or guardian for a specific purpose
• When on an errand, approved by parent, guardian or authorized adult
• To and from employment
• In an emergency
• Prom, sporting events, religion-related activities, school related events, all approved by parent, guardian or authorized adult
• When on the property/sidewalk where the minor lives. Next door neighbor's home if no complaints registered due to minor's presence
The ordinance, which went into effect in 2011, can be read in its entirety at www.cityofmobile.org/curfew.
