Mobile Police Remind Public of Secret Safe Place Program After Newborn Found at Residence

On September 16, 2014, at approximately 8:15 a.m., Mobile Police and Mobile Fire Rescue responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Japonica Lane in reference to a newborn child being left on the front porch. The female child was conscious and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. She is currently listed in good condition.
Mobile Police would like to remind the public of the Secret Safe Place for Newborns program, which is active in our community. Created in Mobile County in 1998, this program gives mothers the choice to leave newborns with medical staff - no questions asked and free of the threat of abandonment charges - within 72 hours of giving birth.
