Mobile Police Scheduled to Conduct Safety Checkpoints

Sep 3rd, 2010

File Number: Safety Check Points

On September 3rd, 5th and 6th, Mobile Police will be conducting Safety Checkpoints in various parts of Mobile. The checkpoints will be conducted during evening hours to ensure citizen safety and that motorists are complying with state and local traffic laws.

Police will be checking seatbelts, child restraints, and other safety features. Officers will also be checking to ensure that drivers are carrying registration, proof of insurance, and driver's licenses, as required by law.

The Move Over Law is in place. The law states that on a four lane highway when officers are conducting business on the shoulder of the road, drivers must attempt to move to the inside lane. If not possible, drivers must slow to 15 MPH under the posted speed limit.
