National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is April 21-27, 2024. The Mobile Police Department victim advocates are commemorating this important awareness week by encouraging members of the community to learn how to help survivors.
This year’s theme is “How would you help? Options, services, and hope for crime survivors.” It’s about creating an environment in which victims and survivors feel safe talking about what happened to them. The primary aim is to ensure that everyone in the community knows where and how crime victims and survivors can find help – including friends, family members, colleagues, neighbors, service providers, or other trusted members of the community. We must all be prepared to offer support.
On Friday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the victim advocates will host an art exhibit at the Shoppes at Bel Air Community Booth to get citizens ready to participate in the upcoming week. Canvas art created by ACCEL Academy students will be displayed. It’s their expression of this year’s theme.
At the mall event, the victim advocates will also provide information about the options and services they offer and promote the “How Would You Help?” 2024 campaign.
To observe the week, a proclamation will be presented at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 23.
