The Mobile Police Department, along with the ABC Board Inspectors, recently conducted an underage drinking operation. Using a minor operative, two buys were made resulting in one arrest and a warrant.
On September 28, 2023, the minor operative purchased alcohol at Snow Road Food Mart, 9850 Airport Blvd. The store clerk, 34-year-old Hani Al Samet, failed to properly card the minor operative by asking for identification, and sold the alcoholic beverage. Al Samet was arrested on the scene and charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor. This was the store’s second violation in 90 days.
The second buy was made at Chevron, 6400 Cottage Hill Road. The store clerk sold an alcoholic beverage to the minor operative without asking for proof of age. A warrant for her arrest will be signed at a later date.
Other locations included in the underage drinking operation were Springhill Shell (3351 Springhill Ave.), R & P Liquor (65 Cody Road South), West Mobile Liquor (2502 Schillinger Road South), and Airport Liquor (7080 Airport Blvd.). They were all found in compliance with ABC guidelines.
The MPD Office of Strategic Initiatives Underage Drinking Detail is responsible for performing compliance checks throughout the year. For each underage drinking operation, the businesses are randomly selected and includes those where complaints have been received.
