In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Mobile Police Department has launched a “Be a Hero, Back the Pink” fundraising campaign. Funds raised will stay local to support breast cancer research programs at USA Mitchell Cancer Institute. With the estimated number of new cases of breast cancer in Alabama being nearly 4,000 in 2017, according to the American Cancer Society, the public is asked to join the employees of the police department to back the pink.
Bringing attention to the importance of early detection and treatment, Mobile police officers will wear pink patches on their uniforms throughout the month of October. It’s called the Pink Patch Project, which is a partnership among more than 100 public safety agencies – all with the goal of fighting breast cancer on a larger scale.
Fundraisers include the "Be a Hero, Back the Pink" t-shirts and bracelets with the message We Got Your 6 and No One Fights Alone. Both items can be purchased online at mobilepd.org/backthepink. The public may also purchase a pink patch online.
In every breast cancer awareness campaign police give support with hopes to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer. This year, monies raised from the bracelet sales will be donated to a MPD employee, who is currently undergoing breast cancer treatment.
