Carmike Wynnsong 16 Theater Joins MPD Project Shield

Soon after the incident on Christmas night at Carmike Wynnsong 16 Theater where four people were injured, Wynnsong management met with the Mobile Police Department for recommended security upgrades. As a result of those conversations, Wynnsong has joined Project Shield.

Wynnsong's partnership with Project Shield will allow police real-time access to its existing surveillance system if in the event disorderly or violent activity occurs. When police presence is needed immediately on the scene, Project Shield will serve as the eyes inside and the eyes around the exterior of the facility.

"I am confident that the measures taken by Wynnsong will provide for a safe environment in which people can enjoy," said Chief James Barber of the Mobile Police Department. "They are commended for their willingness to work with MPD."

Project Shield has grown exponentially since its conception in June 2015 with more than 3,600 camera feeds from both public and private businesses throughout the city of Mobile. The camera feeds help the MPD Cyber Intelligence Unit receive immediate digital evidence to connect the dots of intelligent-gathering information, which in turn is used to solve crimes in the community.

"We hope other similar entertainment venues will follow and join the city's umbrella of safety," said Commander of the MPD Cyber Intelligence Unit Kevin Levy.
