Spring registration for the Mobile Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is now open. Mobilians who want to learn more about MPD’s various functions and community services are encouraged to participate in this engaging, 12-class academy. Meeting once a week for 12 weeks, the academy consists of classroom and interactive instruction provided by police unit commanders.
From April 30 through July 9, students will meet every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m., and there will be two Saturday field trips from 8 a.m. to noon. Some of the academy topics covered will include property crimes, criminal investigations, narcotics and vice, traffic safety, SWAT, firearms safety, and cyber intelligence. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a ride along with an MPD officer.
The MPD Citizens Police Academy is free. Participants must be a Mobile County resident or work in the City of Mobile, be at least 21 years old and have no significant arrest history. A valid Alabama driver’s license and a background check are also required to participate in the academy.
