DOMESTIC SITUATION ENDS WITH POLICE STANDOFF

On May 13, 2009, at approximately 10:38 AM police responded to 902 Magnolia St. for a report of shots fired. Upon police arrival officers discovered John Earl Rollins had entered the location while armed with a shotgun and began arguing with his wife. During an altercation over the gun two shots were fired inside of the business and Rollins struck his wife with the weapon. Rollins and his wife were found in a room near the rear of the building. Other people were found inside of the business when the incident occurred, but all other people in the business were able to leave without being harmed.

The Tactical Response Unit responded to the scene. Police negotiated with Rollins until he was able to be taken into custody without incident. His wife was transported to Mobile Infirmary with minor injuries and Rollins was transported to Mobile County Metro Jail. John Earl Rollins has been arrested and charged with Kidnapping First Degree and Domestic Violence Third Degree.

The Mobile Police Domestic Violence Unit is currently investigating the case, and more information will provided as it becomes available.
