The Mobile Police Department encourages citizens to get an up-close look at what police officers do. Enrollment is open for the Citizens Police Academy. The start date for the 10-week program is March 15, 2022. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. There are three Saturday field trips.
The Citizens Police Academy gives participants an understanding of how the police department operates. They will learn about the specialized police units and their methods of fighting crime as well as how they serve and protect.
There is no cost to participate but class size is limited. Applications are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are 25 seats available. The deadline to apply is March 4, 2022.
Participants must be a resident of Mobile County or work in the city of Mobile, be at least 21 years of age with no significant arrest history. They must present a valid Alabama driver’s license and be willing to undergo a background check.
