Hodge, Acting Commander of First Precinct, to be Promoted to Captain

Jul 11th, 2014

On July 12, 2014, Roy Hodge, who has been acting commander of the First Precinct since December 2013, will be promoted from Lieutenant to Captain. Chief James H. Barber expressed confidence in Hodge's promotion, stating Hodge "will act as a key member on the team to move the Department forward and accomplishing our mission to make Mobile the safest city."

Hodge's impressive career with the Department began in 1983 when he served as a Cadet before becoming a police officer, graduating from Class Eight of the Mobile Police Academy in 1986. Through his promotions from Officer to Corporal, to Sergeant, then Lieutenant, Hodge has held a variety of assignments. After serving in the Traffic Safety Unit, as a motorcycle officer and a Traffic Homicide Investigator, Hodge originally served the First Precinct in April 2004 when he was promoted to Sergeant. Since then, he has been assigned to Central Events, First and Second Precincts and the Intelligence Unit before receiving his current assignment as acting commander of the First Precinct.

"I was honored to be transferred to the First Precinct eight months ago and assigned as the Acting Precinct Commander and I feel humbled to be promoted to the rank of Captain," said Hodge. Captain Hodge echoed the Chief's statements, saying "I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead in leading the dedicated men and women of our Department in attaining our goal of making Mobile the safest city in America."
