Homicide Investigation at Dirt Pit off Theodore Dawes Road

On Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at approximately 8 p.m. officers responded to a large fight that occurred in the area of 7191 I-10 Service Road (Dirt Pit). The fight involved a number of high school students. Through the course of the fighting, 18-year-old Gaige Taylor was stabbed. Taylor was transported to the hospital where he died of injuries sustained in the fight.

Three other juvenile victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Mobile police are seeking juvenile suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call 251-208-7211 or 251-208-7000 Crime Stoppers.

UPDATE:

At 2 p.m. on March 7, 2017, 17-year-old Billy Southammavong and 16-year-old Devon Watson were arrested and charged as adults with murder. Both were identified as being responsible for the stabbing death of 18-year-old Gaige Taylor during a fight in a dirt pit near Theodore-Dawes Road and I-10 on Feb. 24, 2017.
