Mobile Police Announce September Officer of the Month
Oct 8th, 2012
The Mobile Police Department would like to extend an open invitation to the media for the monthly Officer of the Month Luncheon to be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 3051 Pleasant Valley Road. The Officer of the Month program is presented by the Optimist Club of Mobile.
Corporal John Walstad, who has served as a Mobile police officer since 2008, currently serves in the First Precinct and will be awarded the honor for his exceptional performance during the month of September.
The following is an example of the incidents that earned Corporal Walstad the distinction of Officer of the Month:
On September 12, 2012 Corporal Walstad was dispatched to a report of shots fired. As Corporal Walstad approached the intersection, he observed a vehicle in the street with a door opened. Walstad approached the vehicle and observed a male suspect hiding and a second male asking for help. After securing the male that was hiding, he found the second male with what appeared to be several knife wounds. The investigation revealed the two men had an altercation about a cell phone and the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times and fired a shotgun at the victim. The suspect was arrested for Assault First Degree, and Kidnapping Second Degree.
During the month of September, Corporal Walstad amassed eight felony and 25 misdemeanor arrests and issued 31 citations. He responded to 127 calls for service and backed eight calls. Corporal Walstad's dedication to duty and attention to detail has brought credit upon himself and the Mobile Police Department.
