Mobile Police Arrest Business Owner, Employee for Sale of Narcotics

May 23rd, 2014

On May 23, 2014, Mobile Police arrested Desha Matthews and Frederick Howard after they were found to be selling Spice from D & D One Stop Shop on Halls Mill Road. Both were charged with Trafficking Marijuana Analog, however, Howard was also charged with three counts of Distribution and Possession of an Altered Firearm. Both were arrested at the business, owned by Matthews.

The Department will seek to obtain a court order to close the business. At this time, although the business is known to have sold illegal drugs from within, the Department must file the appropriate court documents to close the business. Chief James Barber has expressed interest in the city providing the Department the means by which to immediately close a business who is actively involved in illegal drug trafficking.

Spice is believed to cause cardiac-related issues as well as hallucinations to those who use it. In the past weeks, local hospitals have seen patients from a wide variety of demographics with these severe symptoms.

Anyone with information about the use or sale of Spice is asked to call Mobile Police Intel at (251) 208-7000 or text to CRIMES (274637) and include the keyword CRIME 411.
