Mobile Police Awarded Grant for Digital Technology

Oct 21st, 2010

File Number: Coverdell Grant

The Mobile Police Department has been awarded a Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant. Currently, the Mobile Police Department utilizes film photography to document crime scenes. Acquisition of the Coverdell grant allows the Department to transition to digital imaging.

Advances in digital imaging prompted Lt. Joseph Rose, the commander of the Crime Scene Unit to seek funding opportunities to facilitate a transition from film to digital imaging. Lt. Jim Wilson of the Planning and Research Unit and Lt. Rose collaborated to conduct the necessary research to prepare a quality grant solicitation.

The award of this $173,014.00 grant will provide the citizens of Mobile the benefits of modern crime scene documentation without the burden of the financial responsibility.
