Mobile Police Awarded National Hiring Grant

Oct 2nd, 2013

The Mobile Police Department has been awarded a grant through the U. S. Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program. Mobile Police were awarded over $925,000 to fund the hiring of ten additional police officers to serve and protect the citizens of the Mobile area.

The COPS Hiring Program (CHP) is designed to advance public safety through community policing by addressing the full-time sworn officer needs of state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies nationwide. Approximately $125 million in grant funding was appropriated for this initiative through the fiscal year 2013 Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act. CHP provides funds directly to law enforcement agencies to hire new and/or rehire career law enforcement officers and to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.

Mobile Police Department was one of seven Alabama agencies awarded the hiring grant.
