The Mobile Police Department and the Southern District of Alabama Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee host a free two-day P.E.A.C.E. training program for law enforcement agencies. P.E.A.C.E. is the acronym for Prejudice, Empathy, Attitude, Communication and Engagement in a Law Enforcement Environment. Endorsed and promoted by Mobile Police Chief James Barber, the training program, to be held August 25-26, 2016, has attracted nearly 300 law enforcement participants. The P.E.A.C.E. training program is designed to be a realistic examination of how bias is ingrained in everyone from all walks of life. Participants will learn how to manage their perceptions and prejudgments on a conscious level. And, they will learn effective communication skills to help offset any negative behavior that results from inherent preconceptions. Jim Glennon of Calibre Press is the program trainer. Glennon has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience. He holds a bachelors degree in psychology and masters degree in police management. And, he is the author of Arresting Communication: Essential Interaction Skills for Law Enforcement. Other training topics include: How the Unconscious Works; Implicit vs. Illicit Bias and Proactive Policing; Behavior, Focus, Memory and Priorities; and Complete Communication. The P.E.A.C.E. training program will be held at the Mobile Convention Center.
