Mobile Police Conduct Audit on Crime Reports

The Mobile Police Department reports crime statistics to the public monthly by posting a year-to-date statement on their web site, www.MobilePD.org. To ensure complete accuracy of these statistics, the Department periodically conducts an internal audit of reports of crimes and how they are filed. Such an audit was recently conducted.

The results of the audit found an inaccuracy in the manner aggravated assaults have been filed. This mistake has been corrected for future reporting. The correction, however, did create a significant change in the percentage difference when comparing aggravated assaults year-to-date with this same time last year.

The Department is pleased to report the percentage difference for aggravated assaults is still down 3.2% when compared to this time last year. Previous months in the 2011 calendar year have also been corrected.
